Curriculum Notes for 4/18/11

Math: We are working with our next chapter which deals with multiplication facts that have factors of 10, 100 and 1,000. DO NOT forget to practice multiplication facts every night!

Reading: We are working with our basal text, "The Three Little Javelina's." We will be discussing vocabulary that goes along with the story, as well as a comprehension skill "Compare and Contrast." We will test on Thursday, April 21.

Science: We are working with our new Science unit that deals with "Life Cycles." We have adopted 13 crayfish into our classroom, and we are having a wonderful time caring for and learning about these "Crazy Crustaceans!"

Social Studies: We are not working on Social Studies at this point.

Guided Reading: We are working with Guided Reading each day, and our kids are working with their individual target skills.

Spelling: We are working on Unit 30 which is a review week. We will not have homework or test this week.

Writing: The expectation in third grade, especially this late in the year is to make sure that we are writing complete sentences with capital letters and punctuation. Also, it is important to address the Six Traits of Writing whenever we are writing. Please take note! At the present time, we are writing fractured tales by creating our own version of the "Wizard of Oz" in book form. Stay tuned for when these awesome books are coming home!
